Jerron Paxton

Friday 9th May 2025

Growing up in Los Angeles, Jerron Paxton would sit with an ear by the radio, eagerly absorbing the nuances and history of Black American traditional music that connect him to his ancestral roots in the South. A songwriter, inheritor of tradition, and a walking, talking jukebox, Paxton approaches his craft with equal part wit and reverence, with a knack for leg-pulling and cracking wise. Things Done Changed is an album of original songs that sound beamed in from nearly a century ago, when jazz and blues were performed as a means of both personal and cultural survival. Lick by lick, Paxton builds a bridge between generations gone and generations to come, singing the heartaches and joys of the past and present.

FLOOK

Celebrating 30 Years in 2025!

Friday 23rd May 2025

What began in 1995 as a ground-breaking union of musicians and instruments, has continued as a unique musical offering through one live album, four studio albums and countless outstanding performances. A new recording is due for release in early 2025. After 30 years Flook show no sign of letting-up in their brilliance, their dynamism, or their inventive flair.

The band early on evolved an inimitable trademark sound and hold fast to their rightful reputation as exceptional musical innovators; the whistles and flutes of Brian Finnegan and Sarah Allen, the guitar of Ed Boyd and the bodhran of John Joe Kelly weaving and spinning tunes rooted in tradition over precise acoustic grooves, with a rare blend of fiery technical brilliance, delicate ensemble interaction and a bold, adventurous musical imagination.

Rich(ard) Dawson

Thursday 1st May 2025

Rich(ard) Dawson returns with news of his latest record End of the Middle. While Dawson is no stranger to big musical ideas, be it opening his 2022 album The Ruby Cord with a world-building 41-minute track or writing epic songs from the perspective of a seed in collaboration with the Finnish experimental rock band Circle, here Dawson dials everything down. “Everything is held back and soft.” By stripping things to a bare bones essence, what is revealed is a remarkably poised, oddly elegant and beautiful collection of songs - unquestionably some of Dawson’s finest work to date.

Jessica Pratt

Saturday 19th July 2025

From the opening seconds of “Life Is,” it’s clear that Here in the Pitch is a very different kind of album from Jessica Pratt. The revered Los Angeles artist has become one of the most singular and distinctive songwriters of her generation, largely through the bewitching sound of her acoustic guitar and vocals: a mystical, elusive blend that conjures deep emotional responses from her devoted (and patient) audience. To introduce her first release in half-a-decade, however, she greets us with neither her breathtaking vocals nor the delicate, sophisticated strum of her guitar. Instead, Pratt’s fourth album begins with a percussion roll that nods instantly to the grand, orchestral style of ’60s pop hits like the Walker Brothers’ “The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore.”

*Rescheduled from Tuesday 12th November 2024, original tickets remain valid.*

KING CREOSOTE

Any Storm in a Teacup Tour

Saturday 7th June 2025

King Creosote is the name used by acclaimed Scottish singer/songwriter Kenny Anderson, whose vast catalog of work encompasses folk, indie rock, ambient, and various forms of experimental pop. Hailing from the seaside council of Fife, Anderson was the linchpin of a burgeoning local scene that also included artists like James Yorkston and KT Tunstall, who joined him as part of the Fence Records collective. Working under the King Creosote name since the late '90s, Anderson established himself as a prolific D.I.Y. artist, hybridizing his unique take on indie folk and rock on numerous CD-R releases before finding a more official outlet with Domino Records. Mid-2000s albums like KC Rules OK and Bombshell earned him a wider audience ahead of 2011's Diamond Mine, his Mercury Prize-nominated collaboration with Jon Hopkins. In between smaller, more experimental releases, were significant works like his 2014 documentary soundtrack From Scotland with Love and 2016's Astronaut Meets Appleman. After a lengthy gap, King Creosote returned in 2023 with the sprawling and eclectic I DES.

JEFFREY LEWIS & THE VOLTAGE

Crumb, Jeffrey’s band has played countless gigs all over the world, including playing as the opening act for icons like the Mountain Goats, Daniel Johnston, Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, Dinosaur Jr, The Fall, Dr. Dog, Pulp, Roky Erickson, The Vaselines, and more.

Unseen Unheard

The untold breast cancer stories of Black Women in the UK

Thursday 5th June 2025

The play was commissioned by Gilead Sciences Ltd. and these screenings are organised and funded by Gilead Sciences Ltd.

‘Unseen Unheard: The untold breast cancer stories of Black Women in the UK’  was written by Naomi Denny and directed by Simon Frederick and Suzann McLean, and was presented by Theatre Peckham at a sell-out four-show run in London in Spring 2023. The play is based on the stories of six women from Black Women Rising, a pioneering cancer support project  that seeks to address the inequalities faced by Black women undergoing cancer treatment.  Set in real time on a normal evening, six women, played by actors, gather to unravel their shared experiences of the inequalities that Black women experience through their diagnosis, and invite us into their world with an honest, candid and often humourous insight. There is a real-world objective to these new screenings of the play: changing habits that will lead to saving lives.

The play screening will be followed by a live panel discussion, which will include healthcare professional and patient representation and will be facilitated by Leanne Pero MBE, an award-winning community champion, founder and CEO of Black Women Rising. The panel will discuss the issues raised in the play and what needs to change in the future, as well as giving an opportunity for the audience to ask questions and share their own thoughts and experiences.
